I've been listening to this song a lot lately. It really got to me last night, and I was crying. I thought I'd post it. Not to try make you guys cry or anything, it's just a really nice, kind of idealistic song.

I'm going to respond to my own post! You know things are mad when you're getting all weepy at hearing a sappy FM classic. Every day that goes by it gets heavier. I found out that my friend Johnny was in one of the first firehouses to respond to the fires at the Trade Center. They haven't found any survivors. I don't think there is anyone left alive. Also I just found out that my friend Christine was temping at Windows, which was on the 115th floor. I was looking back at some of the "Holy......" posts. This is such a complicated issue. I'm really upset about my friends, but I don't want anyone in Afgahanistan to suffer like we are suffering, but I also want whoever did this to be locked up so thay will never hurt anybody again. It's also a really s****y way to get support for your cause/ideology by massacring over 5,000 completely innocent people. Symbolically attacking the institutions of American economy and military could have been done in other (non-lethal) ways. I feel for those people that have suffered because of our government, but attacking American people who were just doing their job, who weren't policy makers of any sort, is horrible. There has been an unofficial war going on for two decades, now, that most of the American public is kept sheltered from, or has been misinformed about, and now the citizens are paying for it, just as so many people in Afgahanistan are going to pay for the actions of a corrupt few. They've closed the borders off at Pakisatan and Iran, at our government's urging, so nobody can flee. Not even civilian refugees. They've been trapped like rats. It's so horrible. Now I'm getting sad all over again. I'd better go read a happier thread.

Thank you, Spatula Gal. This is Cyndi Lauper's version of the song, though. I love Cyndi Lauper. She (usually) makes me smile. Marvin Gaye's version is better, but I thought I'd post Cyndi's, because she's such a colorful, upbeat person, and I need that kind of energy right about now.

Spooky, I have never heard of that song, but I like the lyrics. I'm sorry for your friends. I don't know what else to say, I don't think anything I'll say can help much. But I'll pray. And don't worry, please. I know things can get tough at times. Know that you are not alone, and that there are some that understand.

Thank you, kurtlover and nghtcrwlr. This board is so full of wonderful, sympathetic people. I am so glad that I found it. We've been leaving candles at Johnny's firehouse, as well as signing petitions designed to voice our opposition to military escalations that could make a terrible thing even worse.

Spooky, I am so sorry to hear of the loss of your friends. That in itself sounds lame... but I have lost people in the past and all I can do is say This should be taken personally by everyone. We all were personally assaulted by these attacks.

I am reminded of the L.A. riots when the fire fighter was shot in the face for trying to help... Too many good people are lost to us now. I don't believe a "war" is goning to solve this, I believe the government is going to appease the American public with one. And I detest the sheep that will let themselves be appeased thus. I and others will remember.
